Amazon Prime Video To Cut Corners Not Shows
In a recent industry event, Amazon Studios Head of International Originals, James Farrell was asked, the standard, ‘challenges’ question in regards to streamers shifting from building customers to building profit. Farrell responded. “If you can make this great movie with 20 locations instead of 30 to save a little bit of money, let’s do that. If we can reduce the episodes on the scripted show from eight to six and tell the story we wanted to tell to save some money, let’s do that. Let’s be responsible.”
Not to bury the lead but he also exposed some interesting details about how much they produce and how often. They aim for 10 to 12 shows in queue monthly for the 21 countries they serve outside the US. This averages to 1 per country and four of each of the following: scripted shows, non-scripted, and films.
Blade Runner 2099 TV Series Update
Amazon Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 series is buzzing this week as they’ve secured four-time Emmy nominee Jeremy Podeswa to direct the pilot episode. The Game of Thrones director will join the list of executive producers alongside legendary director Ridley Scott. The show will share continuity with the most recent Blade Runner 2049 film but won’t include any of the past cast members.
Henry Cavill Answers the Call of Duty to Amazon
Now that Last of Us (on HBO Max) has broken the curse of video games earning money in film and TV, film executives are once again mindlessly screaming for a copycat. It appears Amazon Prime Video has made two big moves by securing Henry Cavill as the lead in the once insanely popular online video game series Call of Duty. This all makes sense for Cavill’s modus operandi. He’s a true gamer in that he’s built his own PCs for gaming with a real passion for the greats like World of Warcraft, Warhammer, and of course, his passion project, The Witcher. Clearly, Call of Duty is on his list too by the looks of his latest project choice.
Would You Take Dating Advice From These Two Women?
Variety reports that twins Nikki and Bria Bella who has risen to fame from the WWE are about to become hosts on Amazon Prime Video. They are primed to host a dating show for twins called, wait for it — Twin Love.
Variety describes it as: Twin Love’ is a social dating experiment that explores the love lives of identical twins. Ten sets of twins will be split up and placed into two houses of ‘identical’ casts, where they’ll begin a unique and compelling search for love. With double the fun and drama, the series will discover if their inherent similarities extend to their romantic desires. When separated from their twin brothers and sisters — some for the first time ever — will they pursue the same identical partners? Or will their choices be dramatically different?
