Cobra Kai’s Final Bite

Many shows on streaming services are meeting untimely ends in the form of cancellations. Cobra Kai could have met that fate as few know it began on YouTube.  When it moved to Netflix, it became a sensation with fans eager for another season. The extension of the Karate Kid franchise, Cobra Kai seems to have reached a natural end. Netflix has announced that it has picked up a sixth season of Cobra Kai — its last season. The decision to end Cobra Kai’s run wasn’t made by Netflix. It was made by the creators Hayden Schlossberg, Jon Hurwitz, and Josh Heald. In a statement by the three, they indicated that the last season will be the biggest and baddest.

Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai

Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.

Cobra Kai will be hard to replace in the Netflix lineup in terms of ratings. Season after season, Cobra Kai has been consistently in the top 10 Nielsen streaming services chart.

Netflix Cancels “The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle’

It’s little news for some and big news for others such as fans of Stuart Turton. The high-concept murder mystery meets Ground Hog Day whodunnit, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle was published in 2018 and soon after greenlit by Netflix. The promising story was two years in development.  Unfortunately, on January 12, 2023, Stuart tweeted, “Alright pals, I come bearing bad news,” he posted. “Netflix has canned its plans to make a telly adaptation of ‘Seven Deaths.’ Stuart did leave room for hope, closing with “Sad news, but thems the breaks. We’re looking for another home for it, but the focus at the minute is making sure it’s fucking brilliant when it does arrive.” Perhaps equally odd is that he soon after deleted his comments.

Original Power Rangers Stars reunite for 30th anniversary Netflix special

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always stars Jones, David Yost (original Blue Ranger Billy), Catherine Sutherland (who became the second Pink Ranger, Kat, in season 3), as well as Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley, and Johnny Yong Bosch (who joined the show in season 2 as the second Red Ranger, Rocky, Yellow Ranger, Aisha, and Black Ranger, Adam, respectively). Premieres on Netflix April 17, 2023.

Zack Snyder Brings Rebel Moon to Netflix Later This Year

Netflix has set a date for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. The space epic will debut on December 22, 2023 on the streaming service. Snyder originally developed the concept of  Rebel Moon as a potential Star Wars feature before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.

Netflix Scores SAG Awards

It may be just what the SAG Awards needed for credibility. Netflix will increase its audience exposure in 2023 live streaming the event on its YouTube channel. This may not be great news for 2023 after it’s already lost its previous broadcast home on TNT and TBS, but Netflix will stream the awards ceremony live on the streaming platform in 2024.

Jenna Ortega’s Vision of Lady GaGa in Wednesday’s Season 2

While being interviewed on the red carpet at Beverly Hilton Hotel, Jenna Ortega was asked an unusual question. Prior to the 80th annual Golden Globes in Beverly Hills, California awards, Jenna was asked what role she could see Lady GaGa portraying on the Netflix series Wednesday in season 2.  After reflecting on a brief crossing with the pop singer years ago where Lady GaGa seemed more of a mentor than a star, Jenna suggested the same for the show. It’s often hard to answer questions that spawn organically that don’t always fit into the conversation, but it was definitely as solid an answer as it was diplomatic.

Experimental Story Telling: Random Order Viewing

In the spirit of Balderdash, Netflix presents the eight-part series Kaleidoscope in random order to subscribers. You chose one of eight colors with one designated color (White) as the last — or you could even watch that out of order too. You have 5,040 possible combinations to watch all eight color-coded episodes if you keep White as your last episode. If you toss White into the randomization, there are now 40, 320 ways to experience the show.

Early online discussion posts are so far slightly negative of the concept’s execution while acknowledging some of the intended experiences the producers hoped for.
