Here’s the news surrounding Amazon Prime Video for the Month of May 2023.

Amazon Picks Up Batman After HBO Max Drops It

Batman: Caped Crusader made some noise back in May of 2021. As news spread, people learned JJ Abrams was attached to a new Batman show, and wanted to re-imagine it. Fans were understandably apprehensive. After all, Abrams had left a bad taste in their mouths with his handling of the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises. Everyone was e convinced that if Abrams was allowed anywhere near Batman, he would ruin it just like he did his other re-imaginings. Once the Discovery Warner Bros. merger took place in November, the show was jettisoned. Now, Amazon has picked up the rights with a two-year order. If you watch it and hear the Kevin Conroy voice of Batman. You’ll be right. He apparently voiced the first episode.  No word as to when the show will air on Amazon.

Amazon Looks To Be Next In Media Layoffs

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has publicly confirmed that the company’s recent layoffs will continue into next year, causing a sense of doom for employees. Jassy revealed that the corporate workforce reduction has affected Devices and Books businesses, and voluntary reductions have been offered to employees in People, Experience, and Technology (PXT) organization. The decision-making process will extend into 2023, and more role reductions are expected to happen. The layoffs are considered the most difficult decision the company has made under Jassy’s tenure as CEO. The reported number of affected employees ranges up to 10,000, making it the largest layoff in Amazon’s history if they proceed as expected.

Amazon’s Dialog Boost Isn’t First

Amazon has a great new feature for some of its titles. It boosts sound for dialog in (they claim not the overall gain) while background sounds trail behind in sound level. It’s new, so it will take time to reach all their titles. Meanwhile, Amazon claims their first globally to offer the service. This is true. But Roku beat them to the punch with the service they call Speach Clarity, and it does require specific sound hardware.

John Wick Fans Get Limited 3-part Prequel Series

Fans of the John Wick film series are in for a treat as the highly anticipated prequel series, The Continental, is set to hit screens soon. The limited series will delve into the origins of the infamous hotel that serves as a sanctuary for assassins in New York and will feature Colin Woodell as the young Winston, the hotel Manager, and Ayomide Adegu as Charon, the enigmatic concierge.

The Continental is not just a hotel, but a character in its own right in the John Wick-verse. It is a place where the lines between the living and the dead blur, and where assassins can find solace in a world full of danger abiding by the hotel’s strict rules. The series promises to explore the origins of this iconic location, shedding light on its history, secrets, and the characters who inhabit it.

In the real world, The Continental is housed in the historic Beaver Building, a 15-story architectural gem located in the Financial District of Manhattan. Designed by Clinton and Russell in the Renaissance Revival style and completed in 1904, the building was originally home to the New York Cocoa Exchange and has since been converted into a residential building. Its distinctive exterior, featuring arched windows and a limestone facade, was chosen as the perfect location for The Continental due to its historic significance and unique architectural design.

Woodell, known for his roles in popular TV shows such as “The Originals” and “The Purge,” will be taking on the role of Winston in his younger years. As the hotel Manager, Winston is a complex character who navigates the delicate balance between the clandestine world of assassins and the demands of his position at The Continental. Woodell’s portrayal of Winston is eagerly anticipated by fans as they look forward to learning more about the character’s backstory and witnessing his evolution.

Adegu, known for his roles in “We Hunt Together” and “Black Mirror,” will be portraying Charon, the impeccably dressed concierge of The Continental. Charon is known for his stoic demeanor and unwavering loyalty to the hotel’s rules, making him a fan favorite in the John Wick films. Adegu’s portrayal of Charon is expected to bring depth and complexity to the character as audiences explore his past and learn more about his role in the world of assassins.

The cast of The Continental also includes other notable actors such as Mel Gibson, Peter Greene, Nhung Kate, Jessica Allain, Katie McGrath, and Adam Shapiro, among others. The diverse and talented cast is expected to bring the world of The Continental to life, with their performances adding to the series’ intrigue and excitement.

The anticipation for The Continental is high, as fans eagerly await the prequel series that promises to expand the John Wick universe and offer new insights into the beloved characters and the enigmatic hotel. With Woodell and Adegu joining the cast, the series is set to be a must-watch for fans of the action-packed and thrilling world of John Wick. Stay tuned for more updates as The Continental prepares to take audiences on a journey into the past, unraveling the mysteries of the iconic hotel and the assassins who call it home.
