Marvel shows What If? Season 2 and Secret Invasion Won’t Be Appearing on Disney+ This Year as Planned.

The MCU has been killing it in theaters and on Disney+ with recent hits like WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, and others. Spider-Man No Way Home delivered Marvel’s final punch for 2021 surpassing franchise favorites Furious 7, Frozen II, and even a Marvel fan favorite The Avengers at the box office. With Disney+ as an extra platform for the MCU’s expansion, Marvel has been cranking out shows to couple their movie premieres both in fan reception and plot importance. Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight is the next show to premiere on March 30th, but two shows will sadly not be making their rounds in 2022.

Secret Invasion and What If? Season 2 will not be added to the Disney+ lineup in 2022 and instead are making room for other movies and shows to add to the vast Marvel catalog. Perhaps the most anticipated Marvel movie of this year is Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness still set to release in theaters on May 6th. After the earth-shattering ending of Spider-Man No Way Home the new Doctor Strange flick is next in line to deliver a catastrophic change to the MCU-and fans could not be more excited. Marvel President Kevin Fiege hasn’t shared his thoughts of reasoning for removing these two shows but fans have speculated it’s due to scheduling and possibly Covid restrictions.

Still, despite these delays, the MCU is ready to be propelled forward in it’s next stage. These scheduling differences may even allow for a rise in numbers for the previously mentioned Marvel shows, so fans can better anticipate what’s coming next for their favorite band of heroes.

Pixar’s New Furry Feature, Turning Red, is moving to Disney+

Since the pandemic and the closing of theaters, many studios have moved their highly anticipated releases to the small screen. Audiences have enjoyed these big-budget flicks from the comfort of their own homes, even if they’re not receiving the typical theatrical experience. Disney has capitalized on this practice by sending their new content-whether it be a live-action or animated film right to Disney+ where viewers can enjoy some Disney magic right in their living rooms-for $30 extra of course. Films like Cruella, Raya and The Last Dragon, and Black Widow were all released on Disney+(and in theaters as well) and required an additional “premiere” fee that angered many fans. Disney+ subscribers argued that they were not getting their money’s worth because of the excessive amount of remakes and the overall decrease in quality in contrast to their original animated films.

Disney however, decided to release Pixar’s films on Disney+ for no additional cost and allowed regular Disney+ subscribers to enjoy new Pixar shorts and feature-length films instead of a theatrical release. Pixar’s Soul and Luca were released on Disney+ and still received a massive amount of critical acclaim from viewers with Soul winning best-animated feature among other awards.

This year, Pixar has just announced that its new feature Turning Red will be released on Disney+ as well instead of theaters on March 11, 2022. Turning Red follows Meilin Lee. A 13-year-old girl whose family’s ancestral connection with red pandas transforms her into one whenever she shows strong emotion. The film features Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve star Sandra Oh as Meilin’s mother, as well as Maitreyi Ramakrishnan of Netflix’s Never, Have I Ever playing Priya, Meilin’s friend, and Pixar’s first Indian character in a feature film.

Moon Knight Teaser Reveals New Details About the Next Addition to the MCU

The teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight just dropped yesterday, revealing crucial details about the newly added MCU character, most notably his costume’s translation from page to screen. The show premieres on Disney+ this year and is rumored to be released in late March, until then, Marvel fans and theory channels on Youtube have been combing over every frame to see where the MCU is headed, and what this character will bring to the table.
Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac known for his role as Poe Dameron in the recent Star Wars trilogy. He’s closely worked with Disney and its properties before and viewers across the globe were thrilled to hear he would be playing this mysterious character.

The show tells the story of Marc Spector. A man with a dissociative identity disorder that harnesses the power of the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. The season will follow his trials to overcome the darkness inside of him-or embrace it. As for the Moon Knight costume, small snippets and flashes in the trailer reveal a white mummy-like suit with a hooded surrounding the face, and gold embellished throughout the costume. Commentators online who’ve dissected the teaser, have noted how impressed they are with the suit and that they can’t wait to see more.

Director, actor, and screenwriter Ethan Hawke is also starring-some fans have even speculated that he will play the main antagonist of the show but it’s too early to say. For now, Marvel enthusiasts better brush up on the other Marvel shows and films before yet another character joins the mix.
