The minions return in fifth film in the Despicable Me franchise bringing fans the origin story of Illumination Entertainment’s most notorious villain. After the minions joined 10-year-old Gru in the last film, they’re ready to embark on their first mission with this supervillain in the making. After Gru steals a precious stone from a team of grueling supervillains but eventually loses it at the hands of one of his trusted minions, he must team up with his newfound allies to retrieve his key to success and lead the “vicious 6” supervillains astray. Steve Carell reprises his role as the younger Gru. The cast also features Taraji P. Henson, Jean-Claude Van Damme,  Russell Brand, and Julie Andrews as Gru’s mother. This will be the 12th animated film in Illumination’s line up which also includes the Sing franchise and the animated Dr. Seuss movies The Lorax, and The Grinch.

Thor: Love and Thunder
Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Karen Gillan, Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi

The trailer for this new Thor film has riled up Marvel fans once again, excited for what’s next for the God of thunder. Ever since the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame Thor has undergone a great deal of character development. From blaming himself for the snap, to losing his mojo in Endgame a sequence that fans still laugh about. Now Asgard’s faithful guardian is returning to his roots and looking inward, discovering more of his humanity and focusing a lot less on his powers. Of course, Thor isn’t the only wielder of Mjöllnir, his trusty and iconic hammer. A hint all the way back in Avengers: Age of Ultron finally paid off in Endgame revealing that Captain America could also possess the hammer’s powers. In Love and Thunder, it looks as if yet another wielder is up to the task with Natalie Portman as Jane Foster fully dressed in proper Asgardian attire in the final seconds of the trailer. Since the announcement at Comic-Con in 2019, fans have been anticipating the appearance of Portman’s character finally realizing her potential. Love and Thunder will follow after the events of recent Marvel hits Spider-Man: No Way Home and most likely Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Modern horror icon Jordan Peele returns with his latest cryptic film starring comedy personality Keke Palmer, Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira, and Academy Award winner Daniel Kaluuya. The film’s plot is relatively ambiguous much like Peele’s previous films such as Get Out his debut thriller hit. As the trailer for Get Out, the trailer features a pleasant but eerie countryside backdrop with snippets of disturbing imagery subtly revealing to viewers that the film isn’t exactly what it seems. Nope takes place on a California horse ranch that suddenly encounters strange weather and other external forces that cause the ranch’s inhabitants to act strangely. This is one of Peele’s first summer films differentiating itself from Get Out and Us which were released during the late Spring season 2 years apart.
