Paramount + March 2023 News and Releases

Pop Culture Press presents the latest news related to the Paramount+  streaming service for March 2023.

Mean Girls Author Gets Mean

Queen Bees and Wannabees author Rosalind Wiseman sold film rights for $400,000 in the making of Mean Girls (2004). Here in 2023 she alleges that Tina Fey and Paramount have yet to pay her any royalties. Wiseman is taking legal action after Paramont showed no interest in finding an equitable solution. She does however admit “Yes, I had a terrible contract, terrible, but the move has made so much money, and they keep recycling my work over and over again, so to not even consider me…” Wiseman’s work has been leveraged into what seems countless inspired endeavors including a Broadway musical.

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell Fire Up Sequel

A great comedy in the 90s that should have received a sequel is getting one — 25 years later. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are reprising their classic roles in Good Burger 2 for Paramount+ and Nickelodeon Studios.  Kenan Thompson summed up what almost everyone feels, best. “Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal!”

MTV 90s Animated Classic Reboot Season 2 Announced

If you’re in your 50s, then you either loved or hated Music Television’s (MTV) Beavis and Butt-Head.  It began as a short that caught the interest of MTV execs. They in turn greenlit the creator Mike Judge to expand the concept of two snarky urban white teens with crass social skills into a half-hour show that lasted years.

Beavis and Butt-Head stood as a satirical look at society not far off from what South Park has achieved but in a more ‘in-your’face’ manner. Judge leveraged the show’s success and his humor into films and TV such as the film parody Idiocracy (2006) and the satirical misadventures of a tech start-up Silicon Valley (2014-2019),  on HBO.  The return of Beavis and Butt-Head in season one on Paramount+ took place in August of 2022 with 12 episodes.  Beavis and Butt-Head have been renewed for a second season premiering Friday, April 21st, 2023.

Kiefer Sutherland’s Rabbit Hole

It’s not 24, and it’s no stretch for Sutherland in this spy show. So if you enjoyed Kiefer in 24 and Designated Survivor, you may enjoy falling down his latest Rabbit Hole, as he’s also an executive producer of the show.  This time around he’s fighting the power. On Sunday, March 26, 2023, you’ll get to binge on two of the eight episodes in season one.  You can stream this Paramount+ original through the usual suspects, Chromecast smart TVs, Fire TV, and Roku among others.
