Here’s a rundown of everything about the streaming service Hulu during February 2023.
Reboot Gets Meta
If you didn’t know, Hulu had a show about Hulu itself. The family sitcom Reboot starred many past sitcom stars who often made a parody of either their past characters or real lives as fodder for the show. Sadly, after a single season, Reboot has been canceled. Johnny Knoxville made a big impact toward the end of season one as his character leveraged Johnny’s past Jackass career.
The series was a blessing for Knoxville, so it stands to reason that when he was asked about the series cancellation, he’d have something meaningful to offer during an interview with Vulture. “Hopefully I’m not coming off as angry or sad. I’m so appreciative of all that has happened, but of course, I’m a little pissed at the way it ended. Of course, I would’ve liked it to end differently, but I realize I’m a very lucky human being. We made a great show, and it’ll be there for people to watch forever. That’s a pretty great thing.”
When asked why he thought Hulu canceled Reboot, Knoxville answered that he had no real clue as to why. He did offer up wistfully, “I know we made a lot of fun of Hulu in the show, but I give the executives more credit than to cancel it for such a silly reason.” Whatever the reason, Knoxville was true to form with his honest feelings about the outcome. “Of course there’s anger, but you try not to give into that. I’m still trying to process it. ” Season one of Reboot remains on the platform for all to enjoy.
Hulu Up For Sale?
This week some analysts have rumored that Disney may be in preparation to sell Hulu which is valued at 27 billion dollars. Hulu is partially owned by Disney and Comcast. Each company holds an option for a buyout of the other’s 33 percent ownership. Word is Disney has ballooning costs since buying out 21st Century Fox for 71 billion dollars to collect the X-men IP back into the Marvel universe, but that’s led to a huge proxy fight with activist investor Nelson Peltz as part of the Comcast collective. Disney is taking a very aggressive approach to warding off Peltz. Is selling Hulu of any real consequence?
