Hulu Facing Backlash on Social Media Due to Warning of “Unlikeable Female Protagonist”Hulu’s original movie Not Okay premiered on July 29th, starring Zoey Deutch. Deutch plays Danni Sanders as a woman craving social media attention so badly that she pretends to have survived a tragedy. Danni soon gains internet fame and even befriends a real trauma survivor. However, soon her lies catch up with her and she finds the price of internet notoriety. In both the trailer and the beginning of the movie a large disclaimer meant to be ironic flashes. Before the movie, it states, “Content Warning: This film contains flashing lights, themes of trauma, and an unlikable female protagonist. Viewer discretion advised.” However, Twitter and social media have not found this disclaimer so funny. Numerous posts have stated that this type of content warning geared at women is destructive. Others are questioning why there are no disclaimers when male protagonists are unlikeable. Good or bad, this movie disclaimer is starting conversations all around social media, and people are taking notice. |

A new teaser features our vampire crew finding themselves in the midst of a dance-off at a rave club while looking for a good time. Seth MacFarlane is Thrilled About The Orville: New Horizons Switching to HuluFamily Guy creator Seth MacFarlane shared his honest thoughts about what’s become of Fox where his hit adult comedy originally aired, after another one of his series The Orville: New Horizons announced its switch to Hulu. While attending the show’s premiere at the California Science Center, MacFarlane charmed and surprised the crowd by sharing his true take on Fox’s recent developments. “I want to say, it is an absolute thrill to not be on the Fox network,” he continued, “we never really belonged there. And they’ve curated a specific brand now. Between Beat Shazam, Name That Tune and Don’t Forget the Lyrics!, Fox has really captured the demo of people who have no idea what song they’re listening to.” This “brand” MacFarlane describes is most likely due to Fox being bought out by Disney and having to cater to their overarching brand. Still, MacFarlane and his team have found a new place to share his raunchy comedies. Season 3 of The Orville premiered its first episode on Hulu on June 2nd with new episodes released weekly. |
Hulu President Shares The Secret to Streaming SuccessJoe Earley has been in the streaming industry before it was known as the streaming industry. His 20 years of experience have allowed him to have extensive knowledge and a keen observational perspective on the streaming wars. In an interview with Variety, he spoke about the dread most streaming platforms face known as churn which essentially translates to the trend of subscribers leaving streaming platforms. One of the main factors to keeping viewers tuned in to Hulu, besides the constant additions to its library and the availability of live tv with premium subscriptions, is their Disney+, ESPN+ bundle. Earley says, “The churn is so low on the bundle, so we want as many people to subscribe to it as possible because they’re happy, they stay longer, it is still an unbelievable price of $13.99.” Earley also mentioned the different levels of content accessible on Hulu-all with a cost of course. The current plans on Hulu stand as $6.99 a month with ads, $12.99 a month with no ads, $69.99 a month with live tv, Disney+, and ESPN+, and $75.99 a month for no ads, live tv, Disney+, and ESPN+. |
