New Sci-Fi Series Introduces High Stakes for JK Simmons and Sissy Spacek

JK Simmons (Being The Ricardos) and Sissy Spacek (The Old Man and the Gun) are starring in a new sci-fi series exclusively premiering 8 episodes on Prime Video Friday, May 20th. Night Sky follows the Yorks played by Simmons and Spacek as a strange discovery leads them to an even stranger, new planet. As attention falls on the couple, they struggle to keep the secret of this new world and the exotic happenings that inhabit it. Amazon Studios and Legendary Television are co-producing the series along with showrunner Daniel C. Connolly and Holden Miller as co-executive producer. The producing team also includes Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen. Emmy award winner Philip Martin has also joined the production.

All 8 episodes will be released at once, despite Prime’s focus on rolling out new content weekly which they plan to implement in the schedule of their popular originals. Night Sky will be available on a massive global scale being released in 240 countries and territories allowing more viewers to delve into the world of this sci-fi epic. Details of the show have been kept under wraps in order to protect the expansive setting the writer’s have created. Only the series’s title screen has been released not yet revealing any costumes or sets for the production, further building anticipation and letting viewers know they’re in for a exhilarating, explorative ride.

Claire Foy and Paul Bettany to Star in New Prime Video Series

Paul Bettany (Wandavision) and Claire Foy (The Crown) are pairing up again to star in  Prime Video’s second season of the period piece: A Very British Scandal. The show follows the explosive divorce of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll in 20th century England. The second season is set to especially peer into Foy’s character Duchess Margaret of Argyll and how the media portrayed her a villainous home-wrecker. Like The Crown, this season focuses on the female perspective of scandal and how misogyny holds a tight grip over the press and how women are scrutinized much harsher than men-especially women in power.

The series is produced by Blueprint Pictures and the second season is set to premiere on Prime Video on April 22nd 2022 and will feature three 60 minute episodes reminiscent of the first season. Popular BBC writer Sarah Phelps wrote each episode and is the pioneer behind the more feminist message explored especially in the second season.

The Boys Season 3 Reveals New Characters and New Powers

Amazon’s gritty, violent, take on superheroes in the real world is gearing up for its third season recently releasing their most shocking season 3 teaser yet. The teaser features the expected amount of blood and guts especially in the wake of last season’s gruesome finale, but also some revelations that are sending fans spiraling. First off, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) doesn’t seem to be doing too hot but who can blame him after the tragic loss he faced last season. Instead of a violent spree or strategic plan to take down his narcissistic rival Homelander (Antony Starr), we see Butcher grappling with superpowers of his own, powers that are strangely similar to Homelanders. We also get a glimpse of fan favorites Frenchie (Tomer Kapon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) ready to take down some supes as usual. The teaser also includes an interior look into Vought and how the 7 is adjusting to yet another super possibly joining their team, Soldier Boy played by Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles.

Things also seem to be heating up between Homelander and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) who based on the trailer is seemingly still pursuing her relationship with Hughie (Jack Quaid). This’ll likely lead to more tension between her and the hot-headed Homelander and their manager Ashley (Colby Minifie) who looks like she’s had about enough of the supe’s antics. There’s definitely a lot of trouble brewing between characters this season, especially with Billy’s strange new abilities which fans are wondering how will connect with the overarching narrative of the show namely Billy’s vile assumptions about supes. The third season is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 3rd, 2022 with only the first three episodes released. This will follow a new format Amazon and other streaming giants are experimenting with in order to capture the feeling of waiting once again for episodes rather than allowing viewers to binge them all at once.  It’s unclear if an official trailer for the third season will drop but after all the info-bombs in the last teaser, it’s safe to say fans have just enough insight into how this season is going to play out.

Amazon Buys MGM Studios and Acquires New Franchise Rights

The dominating online selling platform is expanding its entertainment grip by recently purchasing MGM studios. Amazon now has secured the rights to a wide variety of films sure to reach new audiences. After HBOMax recently merged with Discovery+ with plans to meld the two services together, this news is heating up the streaming wars all combating for the most subscribers, and what better way to guarantee that victory than having all the best content.

The MGM catalog includes James Bond, Rocky, Legally Blonde, The Handmaid’s Tale (which currently streams on Hulu), and many more iconic characters and franchises. New installments most likely in the form of TV series are expected from some of these franchises most notably the James Bond franchise possibly having a new movie or show since the success of No Time To Die last year. Right now, fans can predict that these films will arrive on Amazon Prime Video shortly and cause more conflict in the streaming world especially since as mentioned, certain shows owned by MGM reside on other platforms such as The Handmaid’s Tale being marketed as a Hulu original.

Fantasy-Comedy Good Omens Just Wrapped Filming For Season Two

Good Omens based on the book series by magical realism and fantasy author Neil Gaiman has just wrapped filming for season two of the Amazon Prime show. A photo was posted to director Douglas MacKinnon’s Twitter announcing the second season had officially been wrapped up. The show stars Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Benedict Cumberbatch alongside others. The series follows angels and demons becoming bored with their life on Earth until an Armageddon threatens their livelihoods.

Written by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, season two will feature expanding plotlines beyond Gaiman’s source material and feature a rumored new character that will be causing trouble for angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley. Benedict Cumberbatch and Oscar winner Frances McDormand will not return for season 2 but Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, and Quelin Sepulveda will join the cast as angels. No release date has been finalized for season two, but it can’t be too far away since this announcement.
